- Shimodaira and Hasegawa (2001,
*Bioinformatics*) was awarded as**ISI New Hot Papers (2003-07) in Computer Science.** - The test procedure of Shimodaira and Hasegawa (1999,
*Molecular Biology and Evolution*) is becoming used widely for phylogenetic tree selection. This procedure has been implemented in several software packages. The paper of SH (1999) has been cited 36 times in the first two years after the publication, and more than**1100****cit****ations by January 2008**. See the page of CONSEL, and the page of Nick Goldman at EMBL. - An approximately unbiased test for arbitrary-shaped regions has been developed using a newly devised multiscale bootstrap technique. The procedure is described in Shimodaira (2002,
*Systematic Biology*), and the software CONSEL is described in Shimodaira and Hasegawa (2001,*Bioinformatics*) for a bioinformatics application. This is based on an extension of the geometric theory of Efron, Halloran and Holmes (1996,*PNAS*).**The theory is now generalized for the exponential family of distributions as described in Shimodaira (2004a,***Annals of Statistics*). See the page of multistep-multiscale bootstrap resampling. - An improved version of multiscale bootstrap, taking accout of the singularity of surfaces, is developped in Shimodaira (2008). The new method includes, as a special case, the former multiscale bootstrap of Shimodaira (2002). The new method is implemented in scaleboot (an R package for multiscale bootstrap).
